Create compound sentences by combining the simple sentences given below. Use connecting words (conjunctions). Write your answers in a new blog post. (Do NOT create a new Blog!)


1. Timmy loves to play basketball. Timmy's dad doesn't have a basketball.
2. John loves to watch the movie Transformers. John loves to eat popcorn.
3. There are many days during the month. There are many days during the year.
4. Tennis is one of the greatest sports. Tennis is not watched very much on television.
5. The dog must eat dinner on time. The dog goes hungry.
6. David likes to play baseball. David likes to play soccer.
7. John needs to study harder. John will not graduate this year.
8. Becky loves fishing. Becky cannot fish if she doesn't wake up early.

Instructions for Blog Post 3

In two paragraphs of 5-7 sentences each, describe your favorite room in your house. What does it look like? Why do you like it? What sort of things are in it? Use as many details as possible. 

Instructions for second blog post

For your second official blog post, you should find a major news article from one of the following websites and write an objective summary of the article.

The article you choose must be about a MAJOR news event (no sports or entertainment).

An objective summary highlights all the key points in the article without giving your opinion about the article itself.

Please include a link to the article on your blog.

Remember, your blog must be at least two paragraphs, and each paragraph must contain 5-7 well-developed sentences.

Instructions for first blog post

In your first blog post, you should take some time to introduce yourself. Be sure to include your full name, hobbies and interests, and feelings about Reading and Writing. 

Remember, your post MUST be at least two full paragraphs. You must check for spelling, punctuation, and fluency of ideas.

Here is mine, which may serve as your example:


Greetings! My name is Brandon Ogilby and I am the 7th grade English teacher at Hughes STEM High School. Although this is my first year teaching seventh grade, I have a lot of experience in the classroom. Last year I taught at the Cincinnati State STEM Academy, which is a 9-12 charter school on Cincinnati State's campus. I also currently teach English Composition 101-102 at the Cincinnati State College and Technical Institute.

When I am not teaching, you can usually find me at home with my family or on stage with my friends. I enjoy playing music, and I have been in a band since I was 14. I love all types of music, but I love to play Jazz, Rock, and even some Heavy Metal.

I am married to a wonderful woman named Alysun. Together we have three kids. We live in Golf Manor, OH.

Obviously I enjoy reading and writing, and I feel that an understanding of language can help you achieve your goals in life. I decided to become an English teacher because I feel quite strongly that no matter what you want to do, language can help you be more successful at it.
